Chris J. Han, DMA

Biography

Classical pianist and educator,
based in Los Angeles.

Born in Pasadena, California, Chris began his musical journey as a pianist at the age of 12.
He received his initial musical training in Seoul, South Korea, where his numerous achievements in competitions and performances were acknowledged by the Korean Government with the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award.

Chris pursued his undergraduate study at Seoul National University, under the guidance of Aviram Reichert. His undergraduate studies were fully supported by the Hyundai CMK Foundation. He then returned to the United States for his graduate studies, earning his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Eastman School of Music on a full scholarship, studying with Dr. Douglas Humpherys.

Throughout his musical journey, Chris was invited to numerous summer festivals, including Bowdoin International Music Festival, Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts, Manifest Arts Festival, IRCAM Academy, Gijón International Piano Festival, MusicAlp International Music Academy, and Tel-Hai International Piano Master Classes. There he has worked with eminent pedagogues including Dmitry Bashkirov, Emanuel Krasovsky, Soyeon Kate Lee, Tomer Lev, Robert Levin, Robert McDonald, Pascal Rogé, Tatiana Zelikman, and more.

Alongside performing, Chris is a dedicated educator. He has taught at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Mary, and has maintained a private studio for over fifteen years. Admitted to prestigious programs such as Colburn, Michigan, and Peabody himself, he has since taught students admitted to major conservatories and university music programs across the United States and Europe, including Yale University, Indiana University, and New England Conservatory.
